This is the third week of advent and we are halfway to Christmas Day. December 16, was Gaudete Sunday which means to rejoice. In the second reading Paul writes to the Philippians: Brothers and sisters: Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:4-7)
We are in the second week of Advent waiting for the birth of our Savior, Jesus. Joseph and Mary travel to Bethlehem to register for the census. So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. (Luke 2:4-5)
The Wesley United Methodist Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is in need of help the second Monday of each month. Your group would begin serving in January 2019. If you would like to volunteer or are a member of a group who would like to help others, please contact the Soup Kitchen at : 301 W18th Street San Angelo, Texas 76903 Phone (325) 653-9028 facebook page: Wesley Soup Kitchen San Angelo Texas Our volunteer group was formed with just a few members, but others soon joined and now we have about 8-10 volunteers each month.
On the first Monday of each month volunteers work to serve a meal at the Daily Bread Soup Kitchen. No one is really in charge except for planning the menu on the previous Thursday and miraculously volunteers appear. Each person chooses the job or jobs they want to do, and with help, advice, and just plain "butting in" the job gets done. The comment was made yesterday that we work so well together, and that we should write a cookbook for the younger generation when they take over. The answer to that was comment was," We would if we could remember what and how much of each ingredient we put in." We have no recipes, only the experience of growing up in households where you added a pinch of this or a pinch of that and use what you had to make a meal. All are welcome.
The parishioners of St.Therese are a generous, loving, and giving church family . Each year at Christmas we gather to decorate boxes that will be filled with food for families whose needs are greater than ours. This is our way of bringing gifts to the Christ Child just as the wise men brought Him gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Advent begins Sunday December 2, 2018. The church's year has come to an end and a new year begins. The outlook of the church changes from one of celebration and hope to one of expectation. The color changes from green to purple. In many churches you will find an advent wreath with 3 purple candles and 1 pink candle . The Advent Wreath is very symbolic. The evergreens used for the wreath itself are a reminder of continuous life. The shaping of them into a circle reinforces that meaning. The circle is also a sign of everlasting life as well as the eternity of God. The purple candles are reminders that this should be a time of prayer and sacrifice to prepare us for the second coming of Christ. On the third Sunday, the pink candle is lit to announce Gaudete Sunday, a Sunday of rejoicing for Christ is coming near. The fourth candle is lit on the Sunday before Christmas.

Invite everyone in the Carlsbad and Water Valley area . Let's make this gathering the best one ever! Please bring a salad or vegetable dish and a dessert. St. Therese Catholic church will provide turkeys, dressing, and gravy. First Baptist Church will provide the hams, tea, ice, and help set up. The community center will coordinate decorations and set up and take down.

Adult and To-Go plates are $10; Children (10 and under) plates: $6. Cooked or uncooked sausage and barbecued brisket may be purchased. An auction featuring donations from various merchants and parishioners will begin at 1:15 p.m. A Country Store, Silent Auction, Bingo and other games will be available throughout the afternoon.
